    naming a folder as con

     I recently came upon this.

If we try to name a folder as 'con', 'aux', 'prn', 'nul' etc, it doesn't allow to name them.

I believe that microsoft has these as keywords like int, char etc in c or c++, because of which they cannot be used.

please tell me if there is a proper logical answer to this or is my assumption correct.

also using cmd prompt there are ways to create the folder named 'con', but are there any security issues??

    thanks,

    Sudeep

    Hi Sudeep,

    CON, PRN, AUX, NUL, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8, COM9, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, LPT4, LPT5, LPT6, LPT7, LPT8, and LPT9 these are all system reserved names, you can not use these name to create folder/file.

I would suggest you to visit msdn site to know more about the Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces etc.,
